Spoon

Spoon
The spoon is arguably man's first vessel. A simple tool to feed himself with. A utensil providing comfort and nourishment. It is universal and timeless, domestic and intimate. With its lip, bowl, shoulders, neck and stem it has all the attributes of a sculptural form. Every spoon is hand carved from one of a variety of locally foraged green hard woods like maple, cherry, beech walnut and apple. They are made in Somerset from material, otherwise destined to be burned or chipped. Mark Reddy has been working with green wood for fifteen years or more using traditional woodsman's tools, the axe, the adze, the froe, the maul and the whittling knife. Every spoon, responding to nature is as unique as the tree from which it was cut. Each is facet finished with a knife to feel good in the hand. Every spoon is both beautiful and practical and will transform the experience of cooking and eating. Over time a rich patina will develop and it will become a very personal object that should last a lifetime.
